Qualifications
A/Prof Marcos Perini MD, PhD, FRACS is a dedicated surgeon-scientist who has committed his life to the care of patients with liver, bile duct and pancreatic diseases. With extensive experience in his specialty, Dr. Perini has performed over two hundred liver transplants and numerous liver surgeries, as well as pancreatic cancer resections, including major vascular reconstructions and multi-organ resections. These complex procedures require great technical skills and a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Perini is highly committed to patient care and seeks a personalised approach to best address the unique needs of each patient.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Perini is deeply involved in research aimed at advancing treatments for liver, bile duct and pancreatic tumours. He has authored over a hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than twenty book chapters, reflecting his ongoing dedication to the field.
Recognised globally for his expertise, Dr. Perini has been invited to lecture at numerous international and national conferences. He also holds a Master's and a PhD in Science and has been responsible for supervising many PhD candidates at The University of Melbourne and training young surgeons at the Department of Surgery, Austin Hospital.
Dr. Marcos Perini serves as a Consultant Surgeon in the HPB and Liver Transplant Unit at Austin Hospital and holds the title of Associate Professor of Surgery at The University of Melbourne. He has been an integral part of both institutions for the past ten years. Dr. Perini completed his fellowship at Austin Hospital, and underwent a sub-specialisation in HPB and Liver Transplantation Surgery in Brazil. His international training includes time as a visiting surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the Medical College of Wisconsin in the USA.
Dr. Perini’s passion for liver surgery and transplantation began early in his medical training. One of his first scientific publications focused on biliary anatomy as it applies to liver transplantation, reflecting his early and enduring interest in this complex field. He also completed an elective rotation in the Liver Transplant Unit at the University of Bologna, Italy, further enhancing his expertise.
Dr. Perini graduated from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, widely regarded as the leading medical university in Latin America.
Liver surgery and transplantations have been his passion since he started medical training. Early in his career, he developed an interest in liver surgery; one of his first scientific publications was about biliary anatomy applied to liver transplantation. He completed an elective rotation in the Liver Transplant Unit at the University of Bologna, Italy.
